Republican runoff : Supervisor district 2 and 5 candidate to be decided

Republicans will soon have the opportunity to decide three primary races during Tuesday’s run-off election.

Many ballots will have just one race to vote on. Public Service Commissioner for the Southern District will be decided between Samuel F. ‘Sam’ Britton and Tony Smith.

Districts 2 and 5 will have the opportunity to choose the Republican candidate for Supervisor. District 2’s race is between Don Smith and Bobby J. Watts. District 5’s race is between Donald E. Case and Doug Falvey.

Smith has 28 years of experience in business, management and sales. He has also served as a local volunteer firefighter, mostly at New Sight Volunteer Fire Department, where he now serves as president.

Watts is a lifelong resident of Lincoln County who served as District 2 Supervisor for three consecutive terms until 2011.

Whoever wins between Smith and Watts will face Jerry McGehee in November.

Case is a lifelong Lincoln County resident who has served as a principal, teacher, head basketball coach and transportation director for Lincoln County.

Falvey was born and raised in Lincoln County. He has worked for Bellsouth for 33 years managing budgets, supervising people and working with the public. He also spent time in construction.

Whoever wins between Case and Falvey will face Gary Walker in November.

Anyone who did not vote in the primary on Aug. 4 is eligible to vote in the run-off. Only those who voted Republican on Aug. 4 can vote in the run-off.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. A government-issued photo identification is required to cast your ballot.
