Central Hinds’ fourth quarter rally downs BA

The Brookhaven Academy Cougars held a 7-0 lead over Central Hinds going into halftime, but they were unable to keep the Raymond Cougars in check, allowing 24 unanswered points and dropping the contest 24-13 in Raymond Friday.

Senior quarterback William King provided 213 yards of offense and one touchdown, a nine-yard strike to his brother, sophomore receiver Price King, in the first quarter. Nick Cizner connected on the PAT. Price would haul in six catches for 70 yards.

William King passed for 122 yards and one touchdown. He completed 12-of-19 passes and also rushed for 91 yards. Junior Madison Smith provided a spark in the fourth quarter when he hit senior receiver Ross Felder. Felder grabbed three passes for 49 yards, and junior Fisher Warren caught three for 33 yards.

BA’s run defense couldn’t corral running back Donnie Haley, who rushed for over a 10-yard average (163 yards) on 15 carries and scored once. Quarterback Tanner Leggett rushed for 80 yards as well.

Brookhaven’s defense made plays throughout the night, led by Connor Griffin who had 8.5 tackles including a fumble recovery and a tackle for loss. Madison Smith had six tackles including three sacks, and Connor Smith had 5.5 tackles including a blocked pass and a tackle-for-loss. Freshman Dillon Burt recovered a fumble. BA had four pass break ups.

Brookhaven hosts Centreville Friday at 7 p.m.
