MEADVILLE – Chris O’Quinn’s 13 tackles and an interception powered the Franklin County Bulldogs to a 19-0 win over South Pike Friday night at Louie Mullins Memorial Stadium.

The FC defense held South Pike to 130 yards of total offense in the shutout.

Coached by Anthony Hart, the Bulldogs (2-0) got a second-quarter touchdown run of two yards from junior De’Martre Collins. After Thomas Slagle added the PAT, the Bulldogs entered halftime up 7-0.

In the third frame, Julian Matthews sacked South Pike quarterback Bobbieal Ellzey in the end zone for a safety to give FCHS a 9-0 lead.

Slagle nailed a 25-yard field goal moments later to build the FC’s lead to 12-0.

La’Darius Norman added a 1-yard TD plunge late in the third for the final margin of victory.

South Pike (0-2) had its chances, even in the final quarter, to produce points as the Eagles cat-quick secondary intercepted Franklin County’s quarterback Jacob McDaniel four times on the night.

Each interception resulted in the Eagles giving the ball back to Franklin County, thanks to an outstanding team effort and big plays by some underclassmen. FC sophomore defensive end Cameron Young made eight tackles, one sack and recovered a fumble.

O’Quinn’s big night highlighted the FC defense. The 6-foot, 215-pound O’Quinn was everywhere on the field. Marquavis Dunn and Norman each registered nine tackles. Domique White and Marquis Hunt added eight hits.

Marc Varnado led the South Pike rushing attack with 47 yards on 16 attempts. He also had four receptions for 40 yards.

Isaiah Elam led the Bulldogs with two catches for 42 yards. Collins finished with 40 yards rushing on eight carries.
