MONTICELLO – Lawrence County hammered South Pike 10-0 in slow-pitch softball action Tuesday night at LCHS. Lawrence County banged out 13 hits and played strong defense to dominate South Pike for the second time in eight days.

With the win, Meleah Howard’s girls improved to 9-1 overall, and 2-0 in the division. The win also assures the Lady Cougars of an invitation to the 4A playoffs, as there are only three teams in their slow-pitch division, and two make the playoffs.

“We had a good night,” said Howard. “We hit some good balls – several of our outs were really hard hit – and we played good defense.”

Lawrence County scored four in the bottom of the first. Barri Rogers’ three-run triple was the big blow. In the third, Rogers’ two-out double drove home Tyranesha Davis, who had singled. Zyon Feazell’s solo homer triggered a three-run bottom of the fourth, making it an 8-0 game. In the bottom of the sixth, four LCHS singles added up to two runs, ending the game via the 10-run rule.

Feazell, Rogers, Josey Nations, and Amanda Rushing each had two hits to power the Lawrence County attack. Abbie Errington, Callie Fortenberry, Sydney Pevey, Maddux Kirkland, and Tyranesha Davis each had one hit. Rogers was outstanding on the mound, not walking a single South Pike batter, and striking out four.

Adriana Smith had two hits, including a booming double, to lead South Pike. Shakira Brister and Moriah Hurst each had one hit.

Lawrence County will host Bogue Chitto on Thursday. Junior varsity play begins at 5 p.m., with the varsity game beginning shortly thereafter.
