McNeese State defeats Choctaws, 37-0

LAKE CHARLES, La. — The Mississippi College football team wrapped up their non-conference schedule with a 37-0 loss to Division I-FCS #17 McNeese State on Saturday night at Cowboy Stadium.

The Choctaws (2-2) were led by senior Chris Ingram, who rushed for 36 yards on 12 carries, while freshman quarterback Walker Meadows rushed for 28 yards on 10 attempts.

Sophomore punter Matthew Turcotte had a big night, averaging 44.3 yards per punt with a long of 55 yards on the night.

Senior Seth McDonald led the MC defense with nine tackles, while freshman Leon Cunningham had six tackles with 0.5 for loss, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. Senior Lazarus Shelby had five tackles with a sack on the night.

The Choctaw defense was able to force three turnovers on the night with freshman Mike Halland junior Reggie Bennett forcing the others.

The Cowboys (3-0), who were scheduled to open the season against LSU before lighting canceled the game, got a four-yard touchdown run from Derrick Milton with 7:56 remaining in the first quarter. The score would wind up being the game-winner.

Quarterback Daniel Sams rushed for 78 yards and went 11-of-16 for 174 yards and two touchdowns for McNeese. Kent Shelby and David Bush each caught touchdown passes.

The Choctaws will be back in action next Saturday when they will host Shorter in Gulf South Conference play at 7:00 p.m. at Robinson-Hale Stadium.
