Funeral services for Jeanette Laird Newell will be 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. 

Visitation is from 5 until 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service and will resume at the church from 2 p.m. until time of the services.

Mrs. Newell, 84, of Brookhaven, died Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. She was born May 20, 1931, to George Laird and Donnie Mae Smith Laird.

Before retiring, she was employed at Kellwood as a supervisor and Stahl Urban. She was also a caregiver at First Baptist Church Wee Care. Mrs. Newell was a member of Golden Oldies Senior Club at Friendship Baptist Church, Loyd Hall Volunteer Club and B & I Birthday Club. She was also a member of Willing Hearts Sunday school class of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Newell; parents; and mother and father-in-law, Clarence and Maude Newell.

Survivors are her sons, Victor Newell of Oxford and Barry Newell of Brookhaven; sister-in-law, Maudell Smith, brother and sister-in-law, Meredith and Marie Newell; and brother-in-law, Walter Sisco.
