Lawrence County (6-1, 1-0), under the direction of second-year head coach Jaymie Palmer, showed off its offensive power last week to earn a big 42-14 division win over the North Pike Jaguars in Monticello.

This week, the Cougars will host another tough Region 7-4A opponent, the McComb Tigers.

LCHS’ top offensive performer last week against North Pike was junior running back Quitten Brown. He rushed for 181 yards on 20 carries and had three touchdowns.

Quarterback Charl’Tez Nunnery completed 5-of-7 passes for 44 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed 12 times for 52 yards. T-Tex Cole gained 41 yards on four carries.

Defensively, Cole led Lawrence County with 10 solo tackles, including two tackles for a loss. Will Thurman and Marcus Kees had fumble recoveries.

Last year, The Tigers prevailed over Lawrence County 28-21 in McComb.

My prediction: In a big Region 7-4A showdown, the LCHS Cougars will claim a 42-35 victory.
