Indians knocks off Franklin Co.

MEADVILLE – Led by senior running back Demariun Wilson’s 131 yards rushing and two touchdowns, the Hazlehurst Indians beat the Franklin County Bulldogs 24-7 in Region 7-3A football action Friday night at Louie Mullins Memorial Stadium.

The victory by the Indians puts them in sole possession of first place in Region 7-3A as they remain undefeated on the season at 7-0 and 2-0 in division action.

Franklin County (4-4, 1-1) saw Wilson score twice in the first half as he punched in a three-yard run in the first quarter with a 10:06 left and had a 65-yard rushing touchdown with 1:48 left in the second quarter. Hazlehurst took a 16-7 lead into halftime.

Wilson’s score before halftime ended the Bulldogs momentum after Keonte’ Bee scored from 15 yards out. Thomas Slagle added the PAT kick for the Bulldogs.

In the fourth period Hazlehurst QB Ladarious Williams scored on a five-yard touchdown run and accounted for three two-point conversions to lead the Indians.

Offensively, quarterback Jacob McDaniel was the leader for the Bulldogs as he completed 4-of-14 passes for 76 yards and rushed for 61 yards on 13 carries.

Keonte Bee helped the Bulldogs’ rushing attack with 46 yards rushing on eight carries. Cortney Smith provided 10 rushes for 34 yards.

De’Martre Collins was the top receiver with two catches for 47 yards.

Defensively, Wyatt Johnson powered the Bulldogs with 14 tackles. Kentrell Franklin contributed 11 stops. Chris O’Quinn provided 10 tackles. Dominique White and La’Darius Norman had eight tackles each. Gregory Queen, Cameron Young and Marquavis Dunn had seven stops each.

The Bulldogs will return to action Friday as they host the Port Gibson Blue Waves for homecoming. The Indians will travel to Woodville to take on the Wilkinson County Wildcats. Both games will begin at 7 p.m.
