Funeral services for Lena J. Smith will be Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home with burial in Gum Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Brookhaven. Bro. James Sanders will be officiating the services. Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, from 12 until 2 p.m.

Mrs. Smith, 82, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015, at Merit Hospital in Biloxi. She was born Aug. 31, 1933, in Brookhaven to Martin and Bessie Johnston.

She was a retired telephone operator from Bell South Telephone. She was an avid sports fan, especially of the New Orleans Saints, as well as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hayward Beeson Sr.; two brothers; and one sister.

Survivors are her husband, Gene Smith; son, Hayward Beeson Jr. and wife, Heather, of Denham Springs, Louisiana; daughter, Cindy Beeson Marshall of Livingston, Louisiana; sisters, Joyce Nettles and Nevalene Yeoman; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
