Graveside services for J.D. Barksdale are Thursday, April 21, 2016, at 1 p.m. at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Ripley. Ripley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

Visitation is Thursday, April 21, 2016, from 12:30 p.m. until time of services.

Mr. Barksdale, 87, died Saturday, April 16, 2016, in Colleyville, Texas. He was born Feb. 11, 1929, in Union Church to the late Everett Lee and Myra Varnado Barksdale.

Mr. Barksdale was a U.S. Veteran, retired pilot and former resident of Brookhaven. A Baptist, Mr. Barksdale was a pilot who served his country in the United States Air Force, and then worked as a pilot for Delta Airlines for 33 years, where he retired as a captain.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his beloved wife of 58 years, Jean Hatcher Barksdale.

Survivors are his daughter, Stephanie Barksdale Watson (Rick); grandsons, Taylor and Tanner Watson, all of Colleyville, Texas; sister, Doris Lassetter of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family request memorials in J.D.’s memory to Alzheimer’s Association, North Central Texas Chapter, 2630 West Freeway #100, Fort Worth, Texas 76102. The Flag at The Ripley Funeral Home entrance honors Mr. Barksdale and all veterans for serving the country.
