MONTICELLO — Following indictments last week, two men and awoman will appear in Lawrence County Court Wednesday forarraignment and to set a trial date on charges from an allegedFebruary kidnapping.

Fredrick K. Jefferson, 20, and Detric Stringer, 20, both ofSilver Creek, face charges of armed kidnapping and carjacking.Stringer is also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.Heather Hux, 20, of Monticello, is charged with accessory after thefact to kidnapping.

The three were served indictments this weekend.

Judge R.I. Pritchard III set Jefferson’s bond at $100,000 forthe kidnapping charge and $50,000 for carjacking. Hux’s bond wasset at $5,000.

Stringer was denied bond.

Stringer and Jefferson remained in the Lawrence County JailMonday afternoon. They have been jailed their arrests in February.Hux bonded out Monday morning.

The two men are charged in connection with a Feb. 18 armedcarjacking on Highway 84 West.

According to a sheriff’s department spokesman and report, theincident began when Greg Norton, 18, of Wesson, was driving toBrookhaven for work after visiting friends in Monticello. He wasflagged down by a pair of men near the old Bobby’s Smokehouse justwest of the Monticello city limits.

Norton stopped for the two men, according to the official,because he believed they were friends. He was then forced atgunpoint to the floorboard of his 1986 Honda CRX.

The two men then split up, with Stringer allegedly drivingNorton’s CRX while Jefferson drove a Ford Escort belonging toHux.

The men allegedly took Norton to an abandoned house and struckhim on the head with a pistol. The two men split up again.

Jefferson was stopped in Monticello by Police Officer GaryMilton during a routine traffic stop.

While arresting Jefferson, Milton noticed a sawed-off shotgun onthe floorboard, the official said. The officer took Jefferson tothe jail after the suspect failed a field sobriety test.

Meanwhile, Stringer transported Norton to Hux’s home, officialssaid. After visiting Hux, Stringer traveled east on Highway 84.When he slowed down to make a turn and lowered his pistol, Nortonjumped from the vehicle and took refuge in the woods. He latermanaged to call 911.

The dispatcher taking Norton’s call recognized his descriptionas fitting Jefferson, who was being held on city charges of DUI andpossession of a firearm by a felon.

Hux was arrested Feb. 20 when investigators became convinced ofher alleged involvement.

Stringer eluded law enforcement officials until Feb. 26 whenoff-duty Monticello Police Officer Ray Smith saw him at aBrookhaven retail store and notified the police department.
