McComb wins division golf

WESSON -Led by match medalist Will Kimmel, the McComb Tigersroared to the Division 6-4A Golf Tournament championship at theWolf Hollow Golf Club. Kimmel shot a 2-over-par 74 and McComb beatrunner-up Terry by 10 strokes, 322-332.

Lawrence County was third with a 339 team score and Brookhavenwas fourth at 397. South Pike was fifth at 405.

Lawrence County was led by Dale Sykes with a 78. Brookhaven wasled by Chris Nations who shot 90.

Hornet golfers finish third

NATCHEZ – Loyd Star finished third in the Division 6-2A GolfTournament at Duncan Park. Cathedral took the team title with ascore of 330, followed by Newton at 341, Loyd Star 347, St.Andrew’s 379, Richland 391 and Morton 463.

Leading Loyd Star was sophomore Trent Maddox with a 5-over-par76. Freshman teammate Jody Britt shot 79, Trey Maddox 84, KevinSmith 108 and Dylan Britt 116.

Trent Maddox was runner-up in the medalist race and Jody Brittwas third. They both advance to the Class 2A State Tournament atthe Forest Country Club which is next Tuesday and Wednesday.

PCS captures South AA golf

WESSON – Prentiss Christian School took first place with a 336in the South State AA Golf Tournament at the Wolf Hollow Golf ClubWinston Academy of Louisville was runner-up to the Saints at 340,followed b Canton Academy 342, Brookhaven Academy 344, CentralHinds 348, Bowling Green 360, Heidelberg Academy 363, East Rankin367, Central Private 369 and Wilkinson Academy 395.

Match medalist was Adam Hall of PCS with a 5-over-par 77.Freshman Craig Smith of Brookhaven and Trey Garner of Winston tiedat 79 for runner-up medalist honors.

The top four teams advance to the Class AA State Tournamentwhich is Thursday at the Canton Country Club.

Smith was followed by teammates Brett Rutland at 82, GrantMcDonnieal 85, Michael Bishop 98 and John Rushing 99. The Cougarsare coached by Barry Gray.
