Like the air temperature, district and subdistrict baseballaction heats up this weekend at several locations in this area.Crystal Springs is hosting the Dixie Youth Baseball Major LeagueNorth Subdistrict Six Tournament at Copiah Academy in Gallman,starting Friday afternoon.

The Dixie Boys District Tournaments start Saturday, July 8, withthe 13s at Summit and the 14s at Natchez. The Brookhaven13-year-old all-stars play Fernwood at 6:30 p.m. in the openinground at Windsor Gay Youth Complex and Brookhaven’s 14s playClaiborne County at 6:30 Saturday at Liberty Park in Natchez.

The other opening round game at Summit sends Copiah Countyagainst Summit. Natchez drew a bye and plays the winner of theBrookhaven-Fernwood game Saturday at 6:30. Opening round losersalso play at 6:30 Saturday. The district champion advances to thestate tournament at Laurel.

At Natchez, Franklin County plays Natchez in the second gameFriday night, starting at 8. Copiah drew a bye and plays the winnerof the Brookhaven-Claiborne County game Monday at 6. First roundlosers play at 8. The state tournament is set for Summit.

At Gallman, action starts tomorrow at 4 p.m., with Hazlehurstfacing Wesson. The Brookhaven Nationals play Lincoln County at 6and the Brookhaven American meet Crystal Springs at 8.

The double-elimination Majors tournament continues Saturday withtwo games. Losers of the Hazlehurst-Wesson and BrookhavenNationals-Lincoln County games play at 6. The 8 o’clock gamefeatures the winners of Hazlehurst-Wesson and BrookhavenNationals-Lincoln County.

Winner of the Brookhaven American-Crystal Springs game advancesto Monday’s 8 p.m. game. Champion of the double-eliminationsubdistrict advances to the District Six Tournament at Pine Hillsin Gloster. The state tournament starts July 29, at Laurel.

The 2000 Dixie Youth AAA and Major League World Series arescheduled for Marshall, Texas, starting Aug. 14.
