Services for Ila Stephenson Simmons of Brookhaven are 11 a.m.,Friday, July 7, at Harrigill Funeral Home Chapel with burial inRose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday, July 6, from 4-9 p.m. at HarrigillFuneral Home.

Mrs. Simmons, 88, died July 5, 2000, of smoke inhalation at herresidence. She was born in Ackerman on April 30, 1912, to JamesAlex Stephenson and Beulah McElvaney Stephenson.

She was a school teacher, having taught at Fair Oak Springs,Enterprise, and Meadville. She was a member of Fair River BaptistChurch. She was a member of the Pilot Club, W.M.U., and L.L.L.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband, LesterLee Simmons.

Survivors are her daughters and sons-in-law, Bettye S. andRichard Douglas of Brookhaven and Bobbye S. and Jerry Rankin ofRichmond, Va.; her grandchildren, Rhonda Douglas Baird of Jackson,Robyn Douglas Aker of Brookhaven, Ramona Douglas Ozier ofChattanooga, Tenn., Lori Rankin Moses of Central Asia and RussellSimmons Rankin of East Asia; and eight great-grandchildren.

Johnes Stovall

Services for Johnes Stovall of Sontag are 11 a.m., Friday, July7, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with burial in Mt. PleasantCemetery.

Visitation is Thursday, July 6, from noon until 8 p.m. at LairdFuneral Home in Silver Creek.

Mr. Stovall, 75, died July 1, 2000, at Lawrence County Hospital.He was born in Lawrence County on March 24, 1925, to Sally Calleyand Levy Stovall.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors are his wife, Jessie M. Stovall of Sontag; his sons,Charles E. Stovall of Wesson, and Byran Banks and Kenneth Best,both of Sontag; his daughter, Thelma Pendleton of Wesson; hisbrother, Willie Stovall of Winterhaven, Fla.; and his sister,Leaner M. Bowie of Wesson.
