Brakemen pull out big 4-3 win over Raymond

The Brookhaven Brakeman, sponsored by the Brookhaven OrthopedicClinic, overcame 6 errors to pull out a narrow 4-3 victory overRaymond at Moyer Field last night.

Starter Josh Garrett and Jay Foster combined for a 2-hitter asthe Brakemen increased their record to 17-12.

Brookhaven will play a Cotton States League doubleheader tonightagainst first place Rankin County. Game One is set to begin at 5p.m. The Rednecks (18-10) currently hold a 1-game lead on thesecond-place Brakemen.

The Brakemen will host Raymond Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m.

Foster picked up the win in relief of Garrett. He pitched thefinal 3 innings, allow no runs, no hits, no base-on-balls with nonstrikeouts. Garrett threw 4-plus innings, giving up 3 unearned runson 1 hit. He issued 2 walks and struck out 6.

Raymond (12-19) took advantage of 4 Brookhaven errors in the topof the second to take an early 3-0 lead. First baseman DustinCliburn walked. Rightfielder Danny Bouchillon reached on an error.Scott Fortenberry reached on an error to load the bases. Twobatters later, second baseman Ryan Johnson reached on an error butCliburn scored from third. Centerfielder Casey long reached on anerror as Bouchillon scored. Fortenberry would also crosshomeplate.

The Brakemen fought back in their half of the second go gain a3-3 deadlock. Rightfielder Brandon Atkins singled. First basemanLea Milton reached on a fielder’s choice. Designated hitter TylerWalker doubled to score Atkins. Leftfielder Seth Lofton doubled toscore Milton and Walker.

Brookhaven head coach Pete Young and assistant coach LarkinHonea watched as their ballclub pushed the winning run acrosshomeplate in the bottom of the fifth. Third baseman Brett Hedermansingled. Atkins’ double on a 2-1 pitch allowed Hederman toscore.

David Wells suffered the loss for Raymond, going the distance.Wells allowed 4 runs on 9 hits, issuing 1 base-on-balls andstriking out 2 Brakemen.
