C. Springs wins two from Wesson

WESSON – The Crystal Springs All-Stars had their backs to thewall Thursday and had to win two games from Wesson to take theDixie Youth Baseball AAA North Subdistrict Six Tournament title atJimmie Hodges.
Crystal Springs hammered Wesson 12-4 in the first game and cameback to nail a 7-4 victory in the second for the title. CrystalSprings advances to the district tournament which begins Saturdayand is hosted by the Brookhaven American League All-Stars.
Saturday’s opening round of the AAA district tournament will beheld at Lofton Field. Crystal Springs (North winner) meets Summit(South winner) at 6 p.m. At 8, host Brookhaven America facesFranklin County (West winner).
Crystal Springs 12, Wesson 4
In the opener, Daniel Sims posted the win with relieffrom Ben Stevens in the final four innings. They combined for sevenstrikeouts and four walks.
Starter Trent Rutland took the loss for Wesson withMatthew Cliburn seeing action at the end. They combined for eightstrikeouts and nine walks.
For Wesson, Rutland and Troy Smith collected two singlesapiece. Lonnie Reeves doubled. Hitting safely were Ben Head, MitchCloud and Cliburn.
Crystal Springs 7, Wesson 4
In the championship game, left-hander Daniel Simshandcuffed Wesson for the first four innings until reliever DustinMerchant finished the final two. Wesson battled back for four runsat the end but remained three short of the tie.
Trent Rutland absorbed the loss working the first fourinnings. Seeing action in the fifth was Joey Hamilton and AlanStegall in the sixth.
Cliburn and Rutland ripped a double apiece for Wesson.Matt Smith, Head, Kody Chrestman, Hamilton and Rutlandsingled.
Leading Crystal Springs with a pair of triples was KellyJordan. Ben Stevens and Daniel Sims nailed a doubleapiece.
