Rayborn wins 3 matches in Miss. Open Tennis play

GULFPORT -Jerrod Rayborn of Brookhaven has won three singlesmatches in the Mississippi Open Tennis Championships at BayouBluff, leading a group of eight junior players from Lincoln Countyin the singles and doubles competition. Rayborn, entered in Boys14s, defeated Will Hunter of Mobile, Ala., 6-0, 6-0; Sam Hall ofBrookhaven 6-2, 6-2 and Jared Hill of Petal 6-1, 6-1.

Rayborn and partner Joseph Comunale are winning boysdoubles.

Hall, entered in Boys 14s and 16s, defeated Austin Pope ofHattiesburg 6-4, 7-6 (5).

Madeline Hall played in Girls 16s and 18s. She defeated TaraBritton of Jackson 6-3, 6-3. She lost to Miles Bailey of Gulfport6-2, 6-7, 6-4.

In Girls 18s, Lindsey Phillips defeated Kystie Carollo ofBrandon 6-4, 6-2 and lost to No. 1 seed Stephanie Gong of Jackson6-1, 6-0. In the consolation bracket, Phillips beat Linley Bergerof Metairie, La., 6-1, 0-6, 6-4. Phillips lost to Lauren Zakaras ofGulfport 6-0, 7-6.

Kimberly McBride of Brookhaven lost to Zakaras 6-0, 6-1. McBridedefeated Ashley Turner of Raymond 6-1, 6-1 and lost to Chelsea Bondof Perkinston 6-1, 6-0.

In Girls 10s, Rosemary Moak of Brookhaven lost to Christy Cloudof Gulfport and Brittany DeCamp of Brandon. Moak also played girlsdoubles where she lost in three sets to Olivia DeSalvo and SarahRothschild of Metairie and Caroline King and Elizabeth Sanford ofStarkville.

In Girls 12s, Anna C. Moak defeated Jessica Taylor of Gulfport6-2, 6-1. Elizabeth Thomas of Jackson defeated Moak 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles, Anna Moak and Sarah Southern of Jackson beat AnnBilbo of McComb and Jessica Taylor of Gulfport 6-2, 6-1.Moak-Southern lost to No. 1 seed Ken Wong and Thomas 6-3, 6-0.

Phillips and Charlotte Heidelberg of Pascagoula defeated KaylaFondren and Ashley Turner of Raymond 6-4, 6-3 in Girls 18s Doubles.They play Lindley Berger of Metairie and Alida Borg of New Orleansin the next round.

In boys doubles, Rayborn and Comunale play Cliff Gaddy and JasonSilva of Gulfport in the next round after defeating Rob Denvaux andBrennen Hancock of Jackson.

In Girls 14s, Hannah Estess lost to Brandy Jones and SarahHinrichs.
