Virginia Cohen Applewhite
Services for Virginia Cohen Applewhite of Brookhaven are 2 p.m.,Monday, July 17, at Harrigill Funeral Home Chapel with burial inRose Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Applewhite, 84, died July 14, 2000, of heart failure atSilver Cross Nursing Home. She was born in Stone, Miss., on April25, 1916, to Alonzo Clifford Cohen and Bessie Davis Cohen.
She was a retired accountant. She was a member of First UnitedMethodist Church.
Preceding her in death were parents; and her husband, ThomasEdgar “Speedy” Applewhite.
Survivors are her daughter, Mrs. Jerrald L. Nations ofBrookhaven; and her two grandchildren, Nancy Virginia Nations ofOxford and Betsy Nations Wilson of Hilton Head, S.C.
Dorothy Brown Barnett
Services for Dorothy Brown Barnett of Monticello are 10 a.m.,Tuesday, July 18, at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with burial inDivide Methodist Church Cemetery.
Visitation is Monday, July 17, from 5-9 p.m. at Wilson FuneralHome.
Mrs. Barnett, 80, died July 15, 2000, of heart failure atCountrybrook Living Center. She was born in Lawrence County on June4, 1920, to Luther and Lillie Catt Brown.
She was a retired seamstress for Kellwood Manufacturing. She wasa member of Southgate Baptist Church in Monticello.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, WillardBarnett; and her sons, Charles and Billy Barnett.
Survivors are her sons, Dewitt Barnett of Byran, Richard Barnettof Anderson, S.C., and Willard Barnett of Monticello; herdaughters, Gearldine Wyles of Monticello, Viola Smith of Iva, S.C.,and Dyan Howard of Wesson; her brother, Jim Mason of Monticello;her sisters, Vivian Wallace of Tylertown, Lillian Fontinot ofJayess, Vela King of Monticello, and Faye Calhoun of Columbia; and26 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Roger Lee Smith
Services for Roger Lee Smith of Brookhaven are 2 p.m., Tuesday,July 18, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel with burial in ConcordBaptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation is Monday, July 17, beginning at 3 p.m. at BrookhavenFuneral Home.
Mr. Smith, 63, died July 15, 2000, of heart failure atUniversity Medical Center. He was born in Franklin County on Dec.2, 1936, to Leroy Smith and Edith Smith Smith.
He was a retired forester and logger. He was a member of theBaptist faith.
Preceding him in death was his father.
Survivors are his wife, Juanita Smith of Brookhaven; his sons,Roger Dale Smith and Andy Smith, both of Brookhaven; his daughter,Virginia Anne Brown of Brookhaven; his mother, Edith Smith ofBrookhaven; his brother, Bobby Glyn Smith of Brookhaven; hissisters, Peggy Foster of Brookhaven; and two grandchildren andseven great-grandchildren.
