Blazers win World Series debut 16-15

SOUTHAVEN -The Brookhaven Blazers weren’t intimidated by the No.12-ranked team in the nation. The Blazers roared to a 10-0 lead andheld on to beat the Collierville (Tenn.) Reds 16-15 in the USSSAWorld Series being held at Snowden Grove Baseball Park.

The Blazers play the Omaha (Neb.) Cardinals next and faceSapulpa, Okla., Wednesday morning, with the winner of their pooladvancing to the championship round.

Starting pitcher Paxton King went two innings for the Blazersand departed with Brookhaven leading 10-4. He was relieved by ToddBarnthouse and Kolby Byrd. Barnthouse picked up the win and Byrdrecorded the save.

A 3-run homer by Byrd led the Blazers in batting. Taylor Wallacecollected 3 hits. Collecting 2 hits were Cody Henderson, King andBarnthouse. Spencer Redd also hit safely.
