Students, parents and educators are gearing up foranother school year.

In preparation for the upcoming school term, whichstarts in about three weeks, educators throughout the area are busycleaning and decorating classrooms, while parents are buying schoolsupplies.

Students attending school for the first time, along withstudents who have transferred to a new school, will have a fewextra tasks during the next few weeks. They will need to registerat their new schools.

“It’s best to go ahead and do it before school startsbecause the first days of school are so busy, and we need to haveeverything ready before then,” said Dr. Leanne Wing, assistantsuperintendent for the Lincoln County School District.

Student registration consists of providing neededdocuments to school officials and scheduling classes.

All new students planning to attend schools in LincolnCounty and Wesson will be required to have their birth certificate,Social Security card and two current documents showing proof ofresidency at registration.

Examples of documents showing proof of residency includea utility bill or check with the 911 address on it.

“It’s important for them to have all of that informationwhen they register,” said Wing.

Students planning to register for kindergarten at localschools will have to provide additional documents to schoolofficials.

“Those registering for kindergarten will also need tobring immunization records,” said Wesson Attendance CenterPrincipal Billy O. Britt.

Students transferring to a new school will need to showproper transfer documents and a report card from their previousschool.

Wesson Attendance Center also asks students to bring adocument showing the township, section and range they live in.Their registration is from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Wednesday, July26.

Registration at West Lincoln Attendance Center isscheduled for Friday, July 28, from 8 a.m. until noon. Loyd StarAttendance Center will have registration from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., onMonday, July 31.

New student registration for Bogue Chitto AttendanceCenter is Friday, Aug. 4, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Students planning to register at Enterprise AttendanceCenter may do so between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. any weekday from July 26until Aug. 8.

The Brookhaven School District will have registrationevery weekday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m., starting July24.

For more information, students or parents should contacttheir respective schools.

Also upcoming is the annual Parent-Student Back toSchool Workshop sponsored by the Brookhaven Outreach Ministries onSaturday, July 29, from 9 a.m. until noon.

Each year the Ministries distributes school supplies,which are provided by several area businesses, to children who arenot able to obtain supplies.

Workshops for parents focus on how to help students withdiscipline, study skills and peer pressure.
