Hattiesburg rips Franklin

NATCHEZ – The defending state champ Hattiesburg All-Stars handedFranklin County a tough 11-1 beating Sunday night in the secondround of the Dixie Youth AAA State Baseball Tournament at DuncanPark.
In other results, Carthage eliminated Natchez 8-3 and EastCentral downed Cleveland 13-5.
In tonight’s games, Cleveland faces Carthage at 6 p.m. and EastCentral battles Hattiesburg at 8.
Franklin County was scheduled to meet Philadelphia Monday nightin the double-elimination series. If Franklin won, they would playWednesday against the E. Central-Hattiesburg winner.
Both teams collected four hits apiece Sunday night. Franklincommitted eight errors, six coming in the third inning.
Barry Shelton got the win in four innings with five strikeoutsand two walks. Duece Ratcliff finished the game, striking out onebatter and walking two.
Going all six innings in the loss was Cable McMinn. McMinnfanned four and struck out three.
McMinn sparked Franklin at the plate with a double. BenMcDowell, Jarvis King and Ryan Ratcliff singled.
Shelton led Hattiesburg with a double and single for 2 RBIs.
Franklin County scored its only run in the top of the fourthwhen McDowell was walked in from third base.
“We didn’t hit the ball as well tonight,” said Franklin Countycoach Lance Murray. “Hattiesburg has a good team. They were statechamps last year and third in the nation.”
