Four new coaches join Brookhaven football staff

Four new coaches have joined the Brookhaven High School footballstaff. They are BHS graduates Aurelio Quinn and Patrick Hardy, DougLucas of Taylorsville and Perry Pylant of Purvis.
Four new coaches have joined the Brookhaven High School footballstaff. They are BHS graduates Aurelio Quinn and Patrick Hardy, DougLucas of Taylorsville and Perry Pylant of Purvis. Brookhavenathletic director Greg Wall said he was happy to have the youngquartet join his staff. “I think they will all make outstandingcoaches. “It is difficult to find young coaches who have collegedegrees and are capable of coaching. There is a coaching shortagethese days because young people are not entering the educationfield.” Wall said the new coaches are learning fast. “They areworking hard and doing a good job with the kids. We have a goodstaff this year.” Pylant is a Purvis High School and Arkansas StateUniversity graduate. He is helping coach the offensive line. Quinn,23, is a former BHS football player and a recent graduate of AlcornState University. He is helping coach the ninth grade and thevarsity line on offense and defense. “I’m happy to be back coachingat BHS,” said Quinn. “This is home for me.” Hardy, is a 1997 OleMiss graduate who starred at BHS in football and track. He was astandout sprinter on the Rebels’ track team. He ran the 100 and200-meter dashes, posting personal bests of 10.40 and 21.2 secondrespectively. Hardy had been working as a City of Brookhavenpoliceman before joining BHS. He is coaching the defensivesecondary. “I enjoy working with the kids,” said Hardy. “I want tolet them know what it’s like to play on a higher level.” Lucas, 29,is serving as strength coach at Brookhaven. He also coaches theoffensive line. He is teaching 8th grade history. A graduate ofStarkville High School, he played four years at MississippiCollege, including the 1989 national championship team. Lucas, theson of the late Tommy Lucas, grew up in Taylorsville as part of acoaching family and moved to Mendenhall where he lived four years.Lucas has previous coaching experience at Madison-Ridgeland Academyand Prattville, a Class 6A school in Alabama.
