One-time Bogue Chitto head football coach Adam Barron returns tohis old stomping grounds at Troy Smith Field Friday night when hebrings his Class 3A North Pike Jaguar football team to face CoachCarl Cole’s Class 1A Bobcats. Kickoff begins at 7:30 p.m.

In other local 1A action, winless independent Clarkdale visitsEnterprise and Jackson St. Joseph is at West Lincoln.

Last Saturday night, Bogue Chitto dropped its season opener athome to the St. Andrew’s Saints by a score of 38-19. Because of thedeaths of Bogue Chitto football players Zach Dunaway, Chuck Inglesand cheerleader Traci Sasser last Wednesday, the game was movedfrom Friday to Saturday night.

North Pike had an open date last week to prepare for theirseason opener on the road at Bogue Chitto.

“They can be very physical,” said Coach Barron, describing theBobcats. “Because of the situation (deaths) last week, we didn’tget to see the real Bogue Chitto team. If we have a good firstquarter, we will have a good game. Their wide-out, No. 8, (CodyWallace) is good.

“Most everybody has a game under their belt,” Barron continued.”I am enjoying it because there are a lot of rivalries. We’ll enjoyit. It should be a good gate.”

Barron, 35, is a 1982 Bogue Chitto graduate.

Jonathan Cutrer was the leading rusher for Bogue Chitto with 15carries for 33 yards.

Bogue Chitto’s Nathan Cuter rushed for a 2-yard touchdown,Wallace rushed once for a 33-yard TD. A 9-yard strike from Leggettto Scott Edwards accounted for the other Bobcat TD.

“We’re not sure what to expect,” said Bogue Chitto head coachCarl Cole about the North Pike team. “They probably changed somethings. They will be improved and well-coached. “We expect a NorthPike team like we have seen in the past years. Their ground gamewill be pretty good because of their runningbacks. We’re not sureabout their passing game. Good linebackers. We’re looking forwardto that game.”

“I’ve known Adam (Barron) for several years,” continued Cole.”He’s a former Bogue Chitto guy. He is coming home to play us. Thatwill mean a lot to him.

“This early season rivalry is a big game for both teams. Itdoesn’t make or break a season, but it means a lot to bothcommunities.”

Last season, Bogue Chitto knocked off North Pike 13-3.

Enterprise (1-0) opened its football season last Fridaywith a lopsided 41-0 win over the West Lincoln Bears. This week,Coach Rickey Deere and his Yellow Jackets play host toClarkdale.

Directing Enterprise to its win over West Lincoln wasDaily Leader Offensive Player of the Week Shermaine Vaughn.Vaughn collected 203 all-purpose yards and scored three touchdowns,including one on an 82-yard kickoff return.

Assisting the Jackets with 8 carries for 75 yardswas Brent Boyd. Monti Croutwell rushed 6 times for 63yards.

Defensively, Enterprise held West Lincoln to just 20yards on offense. Vaughn and Zack Smith led the Jackets with 9tackles and a fumble recovery. Stuart Britt followed with 7 tacklesand one quarterback sack.

Last year, Enterprise gunned down Clarkdale in a61-32 shootout.

West Lincoln (0-1) has been preparing forthe visiting St. Joseph Bruins Friday night. First-year head coachDon Holston coaches the Bears.

St. Joe is coming off a 48-0 whipping at the hands ofSumrall last Friday.

In the loss to Enterprise last Friday, Blake Howsesparked the Bear offense with 6 carries for 15 yards.

Defensively, Howse paced West Lincoln with 8 tackles and2 fumble recoveries. Cody Hall finished with 6 tackles, a sack anda fumble recovery.

Last year, St. Joseph tapped West Lincoln23-12.
