BA Jr. High Cougars bow to Prentiss Christian 21-0

The Brookhaven Academy Junior High Cougars, coming off of anemotional win last week against Copiah Academy, did not bring theirA-game on Thursday night and lost 21-0 to the Prentiss ChristianSchool Saints.

The Cougars were flagged 8 times for 60 yards andcommitted 4 turnovers in their first loss of the young season.

The Cougars (2-1) travel to Marion County on Thursday to take onthe Columbia Academy Jr. High Cougars.

After a short rain delay, the opening period belonged to theSaints. After 2 lost fumbles inside their own 15-yard line, theSaints capitalized and the Cougars found themselves down 14-0. Thewet field hindered the finesse play of the Cougars, who wereoverpowered by a larger Prentiss squad. Although they managed todrive down to the Saint 5-yard line, after a long pass from CollinsCase to Cole Hodges, the Cougars were not able to put the ball inthe endzone.

In the first half, the Cougars only netted 16 rushing yardsagainst the tenacious Saint defense, and went into the locker roomdown by 2 touchdowns.

At the start of the second half, the Cougars began a long drive,but it was soon shut down after another costly turnover in Saintterritory. The Saints held on to the lead, and in the fourthquarter, put 6 points on the scoreboard; on a long run by DanNapier.

The Saints offense was directed by the outstanding play ofNaiper, who finished the game with 158 yards on 15 carries,including scoring runs of 60, 11 and 5 yards.

The Cougars offense was less productive. Although Case completed4-of-8 passes for for 66 yards, the usually dominate Cougar rushingattack produced only 67 yards on 28 carries. The leading rushersfor the Cougars were John Wayne Havard, who had 13 yards on 12carries and Jonathan Watts who carried 4 times for 15 yards.

Defensively, the Cougars were led by Chris Falvey with 7tackles and 1 fumble recovery. Watts had 6 tackles and Havard andWade Calcote had 5 tackles apiece. Dusty Bratton had a fumblerecovery.

Josh Davis led the Saints on defense with 8 tackles.Simon Martin added 6 tackles. Napier, Tyler Polk and Preston Piercerecovered a fumble, individually. Scott Polk had aninterception.
