W. Lincoln ambushes St. Joseph

The West Lincoln Bears chalked up their second varsity victoryin the 3-year history of the football program Friday night, beatingthe St. Joseph Bruins 21-15 on Perry Miller Field.

West Lincoln (1-1), coached by Don Holston, plays at BogueChitto Friday night.
The Bears battled St. Joe to a 7-7 knot in the first quarter.Kalis Fells ran 15 yards for a West Lincoln TD and Blake Howsekicked the extra point.
St. Joe got a touchdown off a 55-yard pass play.
In the second quarter, Fells ran 22 yards for a TD. St. Joe led15-13 at halftime on a 12-yard run by Richard Lefold.
Fells led West Lincoln with 14 carries for 63 yards. He also had3 punt returns for 72 yards.
Stacy Fells was next with 14 rushes for 38 yards.
Easley completed 2 of 7 passes. Cody Mitchell had 1 receptionfor 3 yards.
On defense, freshman Alan Skates led the Bears with 12tackles, including 1 quarterback sack. Howse made 11 tackles and 1sack. Murphy Tuttle collected 11 tackles and Cody Hall10.
Adam Rushing blocked a punt for the Bears. Kalis Fells,Jeremy Branning and Mitchell recovered fumbles.
“It was good to get an early win,” said West Lincolnassistant coach Luke Addison. “This win will get us motivated forthe rest of the year.
“Overall, it was a great defensive effort,” Addisoncontinued. “Our kids practiced so hard in 105-degree heat. Theywanted to win and kept working at it.”
