Services for James Crawley Barnett M.D. of Winter Park, Fla.,are 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12, at First Baptist Church inBrookhaven and 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 14, at Downtown BaptistChurch in Orlando. Burial is 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 15, in PalmsCemetery in Winter Park.

Visitation is Monday, Sept. 11, from 5-7 p.m. at First BaptistChurch. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Barnett, 49, died Sept. 9, 2000, in an airplane crash atBrookhaven Airport. He was born in Hazlehurst on Oct. 12, 1950, toDr. Jim Barnett and Ann Fairly Wilson Barnett. He was a graduate ofBrookhaven High School, Millsaps College, and the University ofMississippi School of Medicine. He did his residency at OschnerFoundation Hospital and at Campbells Clinic in Memphis.

He was a physician and surgeon. He was a member of All SaintsEpiscopal Church in Winter Park.

Preceding him in death was his mother. His wife, MargaretMelissa Barnett, also died in the crash.

Survivors are his father, Dr. Jim C. Barnett of Brookhaven; hisstepmother, Roberta J. Barnett of Brookhaven; his daughters,Elizabeth Ashley Barnett and Laura Catherine Barnett, both ofWinter Park; his brothers, Alex Wilson Barnett of Dumfries, Va.,Richard Barnett of Asheville, N.C., Patrick Barnett of Meridian,Chris Barnett of Jackson, John Barnett of Banner Elk, N.C., MarkBarnett of Lexington, Ky., and Paul Barnett of Brookhaven; hisstepbrothers, James C. Matthews of Manheim, Pa., and Glen Matthewsof Baytown, Texas; and his stepsister, Ellen Matthews Gerland ofBrenham, Texas.

“My first born child has departed this worldly life and is nowin the hands of his Heavenly Father. He left a wonderful legacy forall of us to look up to. He was so kind and gentle. A great son, awonderful husband, and a dedicated physician,” said Dr. JimBarnett.

Mrs. Barnett, 50, died Sept. 9, 2000, in an airplane crash atBrookhaven Airport. She was born in Nashville, Tenn., on April 14,1950, to Bob N. Ramsay and Geri Terry Ramsay. She was a graduate ofBrookhaven High School. She graduated summa cum laude fromMississippi College in 1972.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of All Saints EpiscopalChurch in Winter Park, where recently she was involved in her Biblestudy group’s ministry “Walking the Mourner’s Path.”

Preceding her in death was her father. Her husband, Dr. JamesCrawley Barnett, also died in the crash.

Survivors are her mother, Geri Ramsay of Tupelo; her daughters,Elizabeth Ashley Barnett and Laura Catherine Barnett, both ofWinter Park; her brothers, Jere Robert Ramsay of Hattiesburg andJames Bradford Ramsay of Fairfax, Va.; and her sisters, Sarah JaneRamsay of Dallas, Texas, and Jan Ramsay of Jackson.

Services for Willie U. G. Sones of Brookhaven are 11 a.m.,Tuesday, Sept. 12, at First Baptist Church in Brookhaven withburial in Sones Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Pearl RiverCounty.

Visitation is Monday, Sept. 11, from 5-9 p.m. at BrookhavenFuneral Home.

Mr. Sones, 81, died Sept. 10, 2000, of heart failure at hisresidence. He was born in Sones Chapel, Pearl River County, on Feb.15, 1919, to the Rev. James O. Sones and Alma Ball Sones.

He retired after 37 years in the retail furniture business inEupora. After moving to Brookhaven, he was on staff at FirstBaptist Church for 11 years. He was a member of First BaptistChurch in Brookhaven. He had served as chairman of deacons at FirstBaptist Church in Eupora. He was an Army veteran of WWII, servingfive years in the Persian Gulf. His hobby was doing handyman workand repair for friends. Mr. Sones was known as “Papa” to bothfamily and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors are his wife, Edna Powell Sones of Brookhaven; hissons and daughter-in-law, Dr. James Q. Sones of Jackson, William D.”Bill” and Theresa Sones of Brookhaven; his brothers, Leo VirgilSones and Harvey Harren Sones, both of Sones Chapel; his sister,Mary Sones Anderson of Baltimore, Md.; and his grandchildren, BillSones Jr., Ben Sones and Sam Sones, all of Brookhaven, Jay Sones ofJackson, Ken Sones of Los Angeles, Megan Sones of Charleston, S.C.,and Sunday Sones and Sicily Sones, both of Clinton.
