In other academy action, Copiah Academy hosts Silliman, La.,McComb Parklane is at Amite School Center and Union Academyentertains Tri County.

“Hopefully, we can win this one,” said Brookhaven Academy headfootball coach Doug Clanton. “We can’t put the ball on the ground.We can’t play like we did against Columbia.”

The Cougars (2-2, 0-1) were handed a tough 28-22 defeat byDistrict 4-AA rival Columbia last Friday. Class 1A Rebul (1-3, 1-1)beat winless CM&I last Friday in division action.

Clanton has had to deal with the loss of three injured startersSenior running back Dustin King has a bruised knee and seniortwo-way Matthew Wooten has a stretched ligament in his kneecap asboth missed the Columbia game. Junior runnin back Ben Davissustained a separated shoulder against Columbia and is questionablefor rest of the season.

“They (Rebul) throw the ball a lot,” said Clanton. “From whatI’ve seen, they’ve run the ball well on special teams.

“On offense, they use basic stuff,” added Clanton. “They line upand run straight at you. They have one or two pretty good runningbacks. I think we’ll line up with them pretty well size-wise.”

Ryan Nix sparked the Brookhaven running game against Columbiawith 15 carries for 61 yards. Rushing 7 times for 56 yards wasDavis.

The Cougar defense got 11 tackles from sophomore JeffreyWaycaster.

Copiah Academy remains winless in four games and Friday night’shome date versus Silliman Institute (La.) will be tough going. TheGallman-based Colonels, coached by David Gregory, were crushed byManchester Academy 46-0 last Friday.

Silliman (3-0) knocked off Central Private (0-3) 26-6 lastFriday.

Parklane Academy is coming off a tough 37-21 District 2-AAAAloss at the hands of powerhouse Jackson Academy last Friday. Thisweek, Coach Charlie Newlon’s Pioneers travel to Liberty to face theAmite School Center Rebels.

Amite School Center (3-1, 1-0) beat District 5-A rivalHuntington, La. last Friday.

Parklane whipped ASC 49-20 last year.

Union Academy handed District 5-A rival University Christian a12-7 loss last Friday. The Georgetown-based Saints (2-2, 1-0) arecoached by Randy Holloway.

Union hosts Tri-County (3-1, 1-0) in a big district game Fridaynight. Tri-County whipped Sharkey-Issaquena Academy 56-6 lastFriday.
