Brookhaven man killed in Lawrence Co. mishap

MONTICELLO — A Brookhaven man was killed Saturday morning in anaccident involving a motorcycle and truck on Highway 84 west inLawrence County, authorities said.

Oscar Lewis, 65, died at Lawrence County Hospital aftersustaining injuries in the accident that occurred at 9:30 a.m.Saturday, less than a mile from Monticello city limits, said ErrolPierce, Mississippi Highway Patrol public affairs officer.

According to Pierce, Lewis was driving a 1998 Honda motorcyclewhen it collided with a 1993 Chevrolet truck, driven by Glen Sauls,67, of Monticello.

The accident is being investigated by MHP officers, who have notdetermined how the accident occurred.

“It looks like it’s going to be a failure to yield, but we don’tknow who yet,” said Pierce.

Lewis was the owner of Big O Mobile Home Services. HarrigillFuneral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The accident was the first of two fatal accidents Saturday. Inthe second accident, Ryan Pappas, 14, was killed when he was thrownfrom a vehicle on Highway 583 around 12:50 p.m.

Pappas’ brother, Mitchell, was also injured in the accident. Hewas transported to University Medical Center in Jackson where heunderwent surgery Saturday night. He was listed in stable conditionMonday morning.
