Teen killed, brother hurt in accident

A 14-year-old boy was killed and his brother injured Saturday ina one-vehicle accident on Highway 583 north of Ruth, said LincolnCounty Coroner-Medical Examiner Morris Henderson.

Ryan Pappas was thrown from a Ford Explorer when his fatherTerry apparently lost control of the vehicle around 12:45 p.m.Saturday about two miles north of Ruth, Henderson said.

The teen-ager was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:45 p.m.,Henderson said. His body was taken to Brookhaven Funeral Home,where arrangements are incomplete.

Mitchell Pappas, 11, was injured and airlifted from King’sDaughters Medical Center to the University Medical Center inJackson, where he was undergoing surgery Saturday night, Hendersonsaid. Terry Pappas was not injured in the accident.

Henderson said the vehicle was traveling north on Highway 583when it hit some gravel on the right side of the road and TerryPappas apparently lost control of the vehicle.

“It rolled several times, but it never left the road,” Hendersonsaid.

The Pappas family was in the process of moving from Jayess toBrookhaven, Henderson said.
