Bobcats pass, run over Wesson Cobras

Another weapon istailback Denard Ferguson who rushed for 109 yards and 1 touchdownin Stone Stadium.
“We have a dynamic duo in Cody and Scott,” said Leggett. “Bothare good, talented receivers.”
Leggett, a junior, completed 6 of 13 passes for 135 yards as theBobcats (3-4) won their second straight game. It was the first timefor Bogue Chitto to beat Wesson since 1987 when the Bobcatsprevailed 24-14.
“Our offense is starting to click,” said Leggett. “Our offensiveline gave us some tremendous blocking tonight.”
Wesson (3-4), losing its second straight game, had taken anearly 6-0 lead on a 26-yard TD run by Billy Ray Miller. The Bobcatswould reply with 20 unanswered points.
Leggett’s TD pass to Wallace covered 51 yards down the leftsideline. Dominique Addison’s PAT kick was low and the scoreboardread 6-6 with 4:55 left in the first half.
The Bobcats took an 8-6 halftime lead on a safety. The punt snapto Wesson’s Emanuel Sinclair sailed over his head and he kicked theball out of the back of the end zone to avoid giving the Bobcats atouchdown.
“This was a big win for us,” said Bogue Chitto coach Carl Cole.”Bogue Chitto hasn’t beaten Wesson in I don’t know how manyyears.
“We have some weapons on offense and we have some players whocan play hard on defense, too.”
Cole said his team adjusted to the wet, windy conditions andplayed well. “We were pretty solid on defense. Wesson waswell-prepared for us. We didn’t fool them on anything.”
The Bobcats scored on their first possession of the second half.Ferguson streaked 53 yards around right end for the touchdown. Theconversion pass failed and BC led 14-6.
Bogue Chitto capitalized on the next series when Wesson’sRussell Robinson fumbled on a fourth down conversion try at his 49.Anthony Stevenson recovered for the Bobcats.
Seven plays later, Leggett lofted a 19-yard TD pass to Edwardsin the end zone. Leggett was hit hard on the scoring play but wasready for the next offensive series.
The Cobras had a 68-yard Michael Blue touchdown run wiped out bya penalty on the final play of the third quarter. They regroupedand Corley scored 4 plays later on a 19-yard run up the middle.Gunter’s PAT cut the deficit to 20-13 and 10:46 left in thegame.
Wesson had two more scoring opportunities but they fizzled atthe Bobcats’ 29 and 32-yard lines. The second chance was spoiled byanother fumble.
Bogue Chitto linebacker John Wallace said the Bobcats areplaying together as a team. “We have made a few changes on defense.We are putting shoulder pads (hard hits) on somebody everyplay.”
Wallace is wearing a Cowboy Collar to reduce pressure on apinched nerve in his neck. He sustained the injury in the secondgame of the season against North Pike. Friday night he led theBobcats with 7 solo tackles and 4 assists. Paul Martin made 7tackles.
Coach Ronald Greer of Wesson was disappointed by his team’ssetback. “Bogue Chitto outplayed us and deserved to win. We aren’tvery good at pass defense and we didn’t put pressure on thequarterback. We didn’t tackle on defense and those fumbles hurt us.Bogue Chitto had better players at several positions.”
The Cobras were minus starting quarterback Jason Shannon who wassuspended for one game as a disciplinary action. Freshman NickGunter and sophomore Justin Smith split time at quarterback.
Bogue Chitto’s defense limited Wesson to 164 yards totaloffense, all of it coming on the ground.
On defense, Wesson was led by Miller with 18 tackles.Free safety Ryan Williams had 16 tackles and Josh Ashley12.
