Pearl finishes first; Brook girls take second

The Pearl River Lady Pirates won the annual Ole Brook SoftballTournament Saturday at the Brookhaven Sports Complex.

The Lady Panthers, coached by Lisa Covington and John Ogden,played seven games and won five.

Brookhaven meets North Pike tonight at 6 p.m. and 7 in the finalgames of the regular season.

In the tournament, Brookhaven fell to Florence 9-8, beat BogueChitto 5-2, clipped Natchez 10-7, dump Loyd Star 9-0, thrashedFlorence 10-3, crushed West Lincoln 12-2 and lost to Pearl 4-2 inthe championship game.

Pearl 4, Brookhaven 2

In the championship game, Devin Porter and Kayla Allenpowered Brookhaven with two singles apiece. Hitting a single apiecewere Juliana Wallace, Samantha Boutwell, Cortney Fielder, ErinLyons and Megan Bateman.

Brookhaven 12, West Lincoln 2

In the sixth game, the Lady Panthers got a home run anda single from Chiquita Rancifer. Ginny Dunaway tripled and singled.Three singles were hit by Lyons. Allen, Wallace, Boutwell andLindsey Marble collected two singles apiece. Shamika Gilmoresingled.

Brookhaven 10, Florence 3

In the revenge game, Boutwell belted a home run forBrookhaven in its fifth tourney game. Marble tripled and singledtwice. Three singles apiece were collected by Rancifer and Bateman.Ripping a pair of singles was Porter. Alley, Gilmore, Wallace andDunaway hit safely.

Brookhaven 9, Loyd Star 0

Fourth game action saw Lyons direct Loyd Star with ahome run and a single. Wallace drilled three singles. A double anda single were hit by Rancifer. Tripling was Boutwell. Singling wereAllen, Gilmore, Wallace, Marble and Fielder.

Brookhaven 10, Natchez 7

In the third game, Wallace homered, tripled and doubledfor the Lady Panthers. Rancifer singled twice and doubled.Collecting two singles apiece were Marble, Fielder and Lyons.Bateman, Allen, Porter and Gilmore hit safely.

Brookhaven 5, Bogue Chitto 2

The first win came in the loser’s bracket as Porter,Gilmore and Rancifer paced Brookhaven with two singles apiece.Allen, Wallace and Marble singled.

Florence 9, Brookhaven 8

In the first game of the tourney, Wallace belted a homerun for the Lady Panthers. Three singles apiece were made by Porterand Gilmore. Fielder doubled and singled. Singling twice each wereRancifer, Marble and Dunaway. Lyons, Bateman and Boutwell singled.
