Vaughn scored on an 8-yard run from scrimmage, returned aninterception 54 yards for a score and reached paydirt on a 52-yardpunt return. He also added a 59-yard kickoff return and 134 yardrushing on 9 carries; all in the first half.

Enterprise plays host to the West Lincoln Bears, for homecoming,on Friday. Game time is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.

The Jackets (4-2) wasted little time with theiropening possession of the game to get on the scoreboard. An 8-play,71-yard climaxed when Vaughn darted into the endzone from 8 yardsout with 6:31 left in the first period. The conversion run failedand Enterprise had a 6-0 lead.

Vaughn carried 5 times for 66 yards during the drive that lasted3:04.

After an Edinburg punt, the Jackets would strike gold onceagain. Gerald Vaughn capped off a 7-play, 61-yard drive with a3-yard plunge across the goal line. The conversion run failed andthe Jackets had extended their lead to 12-0 with 4 seconds left inthe opening period.

Enterprise took advantage of an Eagle turnover to increasedtheir lead to 20-0.

On third and 12 from the Enterprise 46, Eagle quarterback ToddVerry tried to hit receiver Matt McGowin on an out pattern. JacketPierre Harthorne tipped the pass and Vaughn snatched it out of theair at the Enterprise 46. Fifty-four yards later, Vaughn foundhimself in the endzone with 8:08 left in the second period. Vaughncalled his own number for the 2-point conversion run.

“Our game plan tonight was to move the ball down the field andeliminate our mistakes,” said Vaughn after the game.

Less than 2 minutes had gone by before the Jackets found thegoal line again. Vaughn fielded a Eagle punt at his own 48 andraced 52 yards to the endzone. Phillip May cashed in the 2-pointconversion try and Enterprise pushed its lead to 28-0, that held upuntil the intermission.

Enterprise head coach Rickey Deere watched as Vaughn took theopening kickoff of the second half 59 yards to the Edinburg 20. TheJackets needed only 3 plays to score. Sophomore quarterback JustinKyzar called his own number from 1-yard out, with 10:50 left in thethird. Kyzar passed to Kevin Harris for the 2-point try and theJackets held a 36-0 lead entering the final stanza.

Edinburg (1-6), coached by Pat Posey, got on the scoreboard with3:05 left in the game. Runningback Chris Verry blasted across thegoalline from 3 yards out. The PAT kick failed and the Eagles’deficit was reduced to 36-6. That ended a 17-play, 92-yard thaterased an amazing 10:50 off the clock.

Posey had previous coaching stints at Pelahatchie andDexter.

Enterprise answered the Eagle score with 1:01 left in the game.Freshmen Derrick Clark raced 44 yards to paydirt. The conversionfailed and the Jackets still led 42-6.

The Eagles closed out the scoring with 44 seconds remaining onthe clock. Junior runningback Joel Manuel, with a first-and-tenfrom his own 20, called his own number and jetted 80 yards to theendzone. The PAT kick failed.

Despite the sloppy conditions on the field from the heavyafternoon showers, neither team fumbled the ball.

“Last week against Bogue Chitto, we had 7 fumbles,” said Deerefollowing the game. “This week we had no turnovers.”

Edinburg, running out of the old-fashioned Notre Dame boxoffense, outgained the Jackets 308 to 229 in total offense; 305 ofthose on the ground.

“They run the box pretty well,” added Deere.

Defensively, Enterprise got 10 tackles apiece from ZachSmith and Chase Raiford. Smith had 4 solo stops, while Raiford had3. Vaughn had an interception. Darren Brady registered a sack. TheJackets defense kept the Eagles out of the endzone for nearly 45minutes.
