No. 5 Hinds trounces Wolves 29-7

RAYMOND – The nationally ranked No. 5 Hinds Eagles handed theCo-Lin Wolves a 29-7 South Division loss Thursday night at RenfroeStadium.
Hinds improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in division play. Co-Linfell to 1-3 in division action and 2-6 on the season.
“We had our chances,” said Co-Lin head coach Phil Broome. “Itwas 15-7 at half. We felt coming back out in the third quarter. Itkind of fell at the end of the third quarter. We turned the ballover on an interception. That hurt us. Our guys played hard. Ourguys played have played hard weekend and weekout.”
In the first quarter, Hinds took an early 10-0 lead over theWolves. Eagle quarterback Brad Banks connected to Chancey Stovallfor a five-yard touchdown. Trey Crum kicked his first of four extrapoints for a 7-0 lead. With 1:43 left in the first quarter, Crumnailed a 22-yard field goal to push Hinds’ lead to 10-0.
In the second quarter, Hinds got a safety at the 10:10 mark andadded another Crum field goal from 27 yards out for a 15-0 leadwith 7:04 left until the half.
Co-Lin mounted its only scoring drive with 3:55 left to score ona two-yard run by Darius Bingham for the six points. Matt Powerskicked the PAT as the Wolves cut the deficit to 15-7 athalftime.
Hinds came out in the third quarter and scored on a 38-yardpass-play from Banks to John Lewis for a 22-7 lead at the 7:39mark.
In the final frame, the Eagles added one more TD on a three-yardcarry by Thomas McKnight for the score and a 29-7 led with 2:41left to play.
Banks completed 13 of 28 pass for 143 yards for Hinds and wasintercepted twice. Catching seven passes for 54 yards was Stovall.Lewis made four catches for 73 yards.
Co-Lin’s Corey Chase was 5-for-15 for 48 yards and wasintercepted twice. Odell Bradley caught two passes for 31 yards.Andrew Burks caught two passes for six yards.
On the ground, McKnight paced the Hinds running game with 18carries for 87 yards. Banks finished with 18 yards on ninecarries.
For the Wolves, Andrew Burks led with 11 rushes for 56 yards.Bingham followed with 14 carries for 36 yards.
Co-Lin returns home to the friendly confines of Stone StadiumThursday night to entertain Gulf Coast in another division matchup.Hinds hosts Jones County. Game time is 7 p.m.
