Lewis W. Bell

Services for Lewis W. Bell of Verona are 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov.9, at First Baptist Church with burial in Lee Memorial Park. LeeMemorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bell, 88, died Nov. 7, 2000, of congestive heart failure atCedars Health Center.

He was a retired farmer. He was a member of First BaptistChurch.

Survivors are his daughter, Shirley Williams of Verona; hissons, Johnny Bell of Verona, James Bell of Magnolia, Ky., LonnieBell of Tupelo and Larry Bell of Monticello; his sisters, MamieHill of Tupelo, Macie Miller of Blue Springs, Gettie Bridges ofSherman and Opal Brown of New Albany; his brother, Paul Bell ofPontotoc; and 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Velma Scott Smith

Services for Velma Scott Smith of Brookhaven are 1 p.m., Friday,Nov. 10, at Mary’s Temple COGIC Church with burial in St. Paul onthe River Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday, Nov. 9, from noon until 7 p.m. withfamily hour from 6-7 p.m. at Williams Mortuary.

Mrs. Smith, 72, died Nov. 5, 2000, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. She was born in Lincoln County on July 14, 1928, to PhilipScott and Josie Pierce.

She was a member of Mary’s Temple Church of God in Christ.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Elijah”Puddin” Smith; her sister, Clara Black; and her brother, CliftonScott.

Survivors are her son, Elijah Smith Jr. of Union Church; herdaughters, Pamela Hooker and Elaine Dixon May, both of Brookhaven;her sisters, Christine Henderson of Brookhaven, Josie Culver andDoris White, both of Chicago, Mortena Lewis of Pontiac, Mich., andEula Mae Floyd of Toledo, Ohio; her brother, Marvin Scott ofChicago; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dezzie Dalton Wallace

Services for Dezzie Dalton Wallace of Jayess are 2 p.m., Friday,Nov. 10, at Divide Methodist Protestant Church with burial inTilton United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday, Nov. 9, from 5-9 p.m. and Friday from 8a.m. until noon at Wilson Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. untilservice time at the church.

Mrs. Wallace, 88, died Nov. 8, 2000, of a stroke at LawrenceCounty Hospital. She was born in Jayess on July 27, 1912, to Georgeand Ola Netherland Dalton.

She was a retired seamstress with Monticello Manufacturing andEdward Hyman Company. She was a member of Divide MethodistProtestant Church. She was a former Sunday school teacher andsuperintendent and a member of the Women’s Missionary Society.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, TroyWallace; her grandson, Landal G. Wallace; and her brother, MarcusDalton

Survivors are her sons, Troy J. Wallace of Silver Creek, DaltonWallace of Jayess, Ladon Wallace of Monticello, and Darry Wallaceof Brandon; her daughters, Bobbie Lambert and Genell Nelson, bothof Jayess, and Glynda Rutland of Monticello; her sister, DaisySmith of Jackson; and 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren andfour great-great-grandchildren.
