Co-Lin splits with Indians

FULTON – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves handed the Itawamba Lady Indiansa 69-66 defeat Thursday night. In the men’s game, Itawamba clippedCo-Lin 82-68.
Co-Lin host Northwest Monday night for two games. The women’contest begins at 6 p.m. immediately followed by the men.
Co-Lin 69, Itawamba 66
In the women’s game, Co-Lin overcame a 59-51 deficitwith six minutes remaining in the game. With five minutes left, theLady Wolves went to their full court man defense and jump switchout of it and got some steals to get back into the game and takethe lead.
Powering the Lady Wolves with 18 points was MindyLivaudais who scored 16 of her 18 points in the second half.Christy Brown fired in 12 points. Tiffany Dales led off thebackboards with six rebounds followed by Shaniqua Dennis and Brownwith five rebounds apiece. Rusti Smith had fourassists.
“It was a good win on the road,” said Co-Lin women’scoach Gwyn Young. “Brown came off the bench to give us 10 pointsand others did a good job defending to help keep us in thegame.”
Itawamba 82, Co-Lin 68
“Itawamba came to play and we didn’t,” said Co-Lin men’s coachDennis Sims. “Our lack of team play and unwillingness to play hardwere visible throughout the game.”
The Wolves were down 41-28 at the half but with 13 minutes leftin the second half, gained a lead of 48-47. The Indians scoredeight unanswered points to forge ahead 55-48 with the Wolvescontinued to play as a group of individuals.
For Co-Lin, Brandon Dickerson led the way with 22 points. MarcusCalcote followed with 12 points. Calcote led off the backboardswith nine points. Grabbing seven rebounds apiece were Barry Whitleyand Quentin Christian.
The Indians got 15 points from Trent Vaughn and 14 points fromThad Jones.
