North Forrest wins two from Loyd Star

HATTIESBURG -Senior center James Hollingsworth sacked 39 pointsand powered the North Forrest Eagles to a 63-54 Monday nightvictory over the Loyd Star Hornets in varsity boys action.

In the varsity girls game, Samantha Flennon’s 15 points sparkedNorth Forrest to a 50-46 triumph.

The Hornets (0-1) got 20 points from guard Brad Britt. On thebackboards, they got 7 rebounds from Freddy Calcote. Brad Britt had6 rebounds and Seth Britt 5. Brad Britt had 4 steals. DemarcusBarnes and Seth Britt had 3 steals apiece. Barnes made 5 assistsand Jared Britt 3.

The Eagles returned four starters from last year.

“We were able to hurt them with our press,” said Loyd Star coachGene Britt. “Hollingsworth is a good rebounder and we didn’t haveanybody who could match up with him. He’s about 6-foot-6 and hewould go over us for rebounds when we tried to block him out.”

Loyd Star hosts St. Andrew’s for three games Friday night,starting with a JV boys game at 5. Loyd Star hosts Enterprise for ajunior high doubleheader Thursday night, starting at 5.

The Lady Hornets (0-1) were led by forward Leah Smith’s 14points. Monica Townsend had 11 points. On the backboards they wereled by Jamakia Henderson with 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Christy Mayhad 6 rebounds and 2 steals.

“We need to step up our intensity and play four quarters insteadof two or three,” said Loyd Star girls coach Lori Britt.

North Forrest made it to the semifinals of the Class 2A statetournament last season. The Lady Eagles led 21-18 at halftime.
