North Pike wrecks Franklin County

SUMMIT -Led by center Jessica Coleman’s 19 points and SabrinaArd’s 17, the North Pike Lady Jaguars buried the Franklin Countygirls 98-47 Tuesday night.

In the varsity boys game, North Pike erased a halftime deficitand beat Franklin County’s Bulldogs 52-37, led by forward NicWilson’s 17 points.

Franklin County resumes play Tuesday, hosting Wilkinson County.North Pike plays at Bogue Chitto Tuesday night.

The Jaguars (4-2) trailed 24-23 at halftime. They outscored theBulldogs 16-3 in the third quarter. North Pike got 6 rebounds, 3assists and 2 blocked shots from Wilson. Guard Josh Matthews had 13points and 6 rebounds

“In the first half we didn’t execute on offense because ofFranklin County’s defense,” said North Pike coach Cassells Wilson.”We went man-to-man on defense in the second half and took awaytheir outside shooting in the second half.”

The Bulldogs (2-4) got 17 points and 6 rebounds from forwardLogan Jones. Forward Grant Rogers had 11 points, 5 rebounds and 2steals.

“We played a good ball club tonight,” said Franklin County coachChris Jordan. “We must stop making mistakes, such as turnovers andfouls, if we are to have a good season.”

The Lady Bulldogs (2-4) were minus leading scorer Carletta Browndue to Illness. They trailed North Pike 50-23 at halftime. CenterShantae Gills had 11 points and forward Kim Smith had 8 reboundsfor the Lady Dawgs. Gills also had 4 steals.

“We just clicked tonight,” said North Pike coach John Stephens,describing his team’s offense. “Our bench and reserves stepped uptonight.”

The Lady Jaguars (6-1) got 12 points from Jackie Ard and KatieFreeman and 10 from Pam Johnson. On the backboards, Johnson crashedthe boards and grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked 3 shots. Colemancollected 8 rebounds.
