BA girls crush Hillcrest; face Jackson Prep today

MADISON -Guards Amy Smith and Katie Newman scored 16 and 12points respectively in leading the Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougarsto a 74-32 Wednesday trouncing of Hillcrest Christian in theMadison-Ridgeland Academy Invitational.
In the boys game, Jackson Academy beat Brookhaven Academy 54-44,led by powerful 6-foot- 6 center John Burns who scored 22points.
The BA girls (12-0) outrebounded Hillcrest 39-18, led by LeahDavis with 8 boards and Anna L. Gatlin with 7. Newman made 8assists and Smith 5. Newman accounted for 6 steals.
The BA Lady Cougars play Jackson Prep (9-0) today at 4 p.m., ina battle of unbeaten teams.
The Cougars (6-3) were led on the backboards by center PaulCoker with 16 points and 4 rebounds. Ben Davis made 4 assists andclaimed 5 rebounds.
The Cougars were minus starting guard Jake Sessums who isparticipating in all-star football practice this week.
“JA pounded the ball inside with Burns,” said Brookhaven Academyboys coach Dale Watts. “We have been out of sync the last fewgames.”
The Raiders (7-3) held a 31-21 halftime lead.
The Cougars will host JA next Tuesday, Dec. 5.
