Burglary suspects face charges in two counties

LAWRENCE COUNTY — Two Jayess residents have been taken intocustody in connection with several house burglaries, according toauthorities.

James Bessemier, 20, and Selina Delaughter, 27, both of ChinaGrove Road, were arrested on burglary charges Wednesday night at ahotel in Pike County, said Lawrence County Sheriff Joel Thames.

“As of right now, we have about four counts of burglary of adwelling on both of them, and there could be additional charges,”said Thames, mentioning an ongoing investigation WalthallCounty.

In Lincoln County, Delaughter and Bessemier face charges ofburglary and conspiracy to commit burglary in connection with aNov. 15 house burglary on East Lincoln Road, said Lincoln CountySheriff Lynn Boyte.

The two have allegedly broken into several houses in the threecounties and cleaned them out, taking a variety of items such asfirearms, appliances, clothing and quilts, added Thames.

“We haven’t recovered everything that was stolen, but we’verecovered several items, and stuff keeps coming in,” said Thames,adding that more stolen items were recovered Thursday.

Thames hopes to be able to recover more and return all thestolen items to the rightful owners. He is thankful for the tips hereceived about the whereabouts of Bessemier and Delaughter. Thamesis also appreciative of the assistance his department received fromPike County authorities in the arrests.
