Sisco’s free throws save W. Lincoln

West Lincoln’s Jamie Sisco shot 100 free throws before practiceMonday afternoon. Sisco’s dedication was rewarded last night as hesank three straight free throws with 2.6 seconds left to play,lifting the Bears to a shaky 58-57 win over the Bogue ChittoBobcats in Jack Case Gymnasium.

Bogue Chitto’s upset bid almost was realized. Guard TradellBlack sank a pair of clutch free throws with 6.4 seconds remaining.West Lincoln coach Jason Case had called three straight timeouts inan effort to rattle Black but he calmly swished both shots.

On the ensuing play, Sisco had launched a 3-point field goalfrom just behind the line and was fouled. Each successful free shotdrew a cheer from the partisan crowd.

“Jamie had been struggling at the free throw line,” said Case.”He came in here before practice today and shot 100 free throws.There wasn’t nearly as much pressure on those 100 and than therewas on those three.”

After the game, as the two rivals exchanged handshakes, twoBogue Chitto players were charged with technical fouls for makingremarks at the referees who were standing near midcourt.

“Bogue Chitto is quick and they shot a good percentage tonight,”said Coach Case. “They hit some clutch free throws which kept themin the game.”

The Bobcats were facing a 9-point, 49-40, deficit with 5:19 leftto play when Carlos “Big Dog” Johnson hit a pair of free throws.Bogue Chitto got two straight field goals by Michael Blackwell andgained a 51-51 deadlock with 2:11 left in the game.

“I’m proud of our team,” said Bogue Chitto coach Theo Black.”They are improving every day. You could see it tonight.”

Black said his team’s half-court, man-to-man defense gave WestLincoln trouble. He got a game-high 23 points from junior guardCarlos Brown who sacked 5 treys. Brown also had 4 steals.

The Bobcats (4-7, 2-4) got 7 assists and 5 rebounds from DenardFerguson. Marc Howard had 5 rebounds.

Luke Lofton led West Lincoln with 15 points and 5 rebounds,nailing a pair of treys. Lofton scraped his right knee when he wasdriving for a layup and was forced to leave the game. Cody Mitchellwent to the charity line in place of Lofton and hit both freethrows for a 55-53 lead with 1:12 left.

Black, the grandson of Bogue Chitto’s coach, hit a short jumperwith 43 seconds left to gain a 55-55 deadlock. His 2 free throwsgave almost gained them a victory.

West Lincoln (10-3, 4-0) remained unbeaten in Division 7-1Aplay. The Bears got 13 points and 6 rebounds from Johnson. SamCollins had 6 rebounds. Adam Rushing and Luke Lofton each had 5rebounds. Mitchell made 5 assists.

Junior High Results

West Lincoln (6-3) beat Bogue Chitto 44-32 in the juniorhigh boys game. The Bears got 21 points from Tyler Smith and 18from Shane Lynch.

Bogue Chitto was led by Mario Parker with 9 points.Daniel Howard netted 8.
