Brook overpowers Bobcats

BOGUE CHITTO -Participation was a highlight of Tuesday night’sBrookhaven-Bogue Chitto varsity boys contest in Calhoun Gymnasium.Every player wearing a uniform got to play as Brookhavenoverpowered the homestanding Bobcats 76-38, led by powerful6-foot-6 junior center Rayshon Autman’s 12 points.
Thirteen Panthers put points on the scoreboard. Brookhaven(18-4) roared to a 43-19 halftime lead.
“We got a chance to pay everybody,” said Brookhaven boys coachPreston Wilson. “We were able to rest our legs for Friday night,”when the Panthers host Lawrence County. “We will have to do a muchbetter job on defense.”
Bogue Chitto (5-11), in the midst of a rebuilding season, wasunable to handle Brookhaven’s size and depth. The Bobcats got 12points from Carlos Brown as he hit 4 treys. Freshman Dorian Dunn,who moved to Bogue Chitto from Toledo, Oh., grabbed 7 rebounds.
Theodore “Bo” Black came out of retirement to coach the Bobcatsthis season after Randy Laird moved home to West Lincoln after oneyear at the helm. Black is the fourth new boys coach in fouryears.
“Hopefully we can put things together,” said Black. “We play atough schedule but that is the way for us to get better.
“We have eight juniors on this team so that will help us nextseason,” Black continued. “They play hard.”
Brookhaven used a half-court trap to ignite a 15-2 run in thesecond quarter. A pair of free throws by Autman pushed the Panthersahead 35-13 and 3:01 left in the first half.
In the JV game, Brookhaven posted a 42-28 victory, led byDerrick Allen’s 9 points.
