This cow must not have been ready for sale.

The critter escaped Tuesday from the Lincoln County LivestockBarn on Highway 51 and led animal control officials and others on achase through the city, said Assistant Police Chief Arlustra “Pap”Henderson.

The department received a 911 report at 10:47 a.m. of theat-large animal in the Mockingbird and Red Oak Drive area,Henderson said. Animal Control Officer Patrick Holloway wasdispatched to corral the cow.

Anthony Harold Pitts was jogging in the Red Oak Drive area andhad an unfortunate encounter with the escapee.

“The cow attacked him,” Henderson said, adding that Pittsunsuccessfully tried to avoid the animal.

Pitts was treated for scratches and bruises at King’s DaughtersMedical Center and released, Henderson said.

Following another close encounter with DAILY LEADER PhotographerJonathon Alford, the cow was reported in the Hartman Street areaand then at several spots along Cherokee Street. An official at alocal bank reported the cow circling the building, although it wasunclear the animal ever left a “deposit” during his adventures.

The cow then moved down Jackson Street toward a local funeralhome and eventually to Chippewa Street, Henderson said.

Livestock barn owners and employees captured the cow in the backyard of a Chippewa Street home shortly before noon, Hendersonsaid.
