WESSON -Co-Lin’s performance in the paint and at the free throwline were keys to the Lady Wolves turning back Pearl RiverCommunity College Thursday night in Mullen Gymnasium. The LadyWolves got 18 points each from Tiffany Dales and Mindy Livaudais inbeating Pearl River 69-56 to remain undefeated in 21 games.

Co-Lin, ranked No. 6 in the latest NJCAA national poll, climbedto 10-0 in the South Division. The Lady Wolves host Jones CountyJunior College Monday night in their final home game and wrap upregular season play at Southwest next Thursday night.

“It’s a good thing we shot our free throws well,” said Co-Linwomen’s coach Gwyn Young. He watched his Lady Wolves make 19straight before missing. They made 29 of 38 for the game or 76percent.

“Pearl River runs their offense well and does the little thingsright,” Young pointed out. “We didn’t run our offense the way wewanted to but we did get the ball inside to our post people.”

Freshman center Christy Brown joined Dales and Livaudais indouble figures with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Livaudais also had11 boards and Dales grabbed 9 rebounds.

“It was a physical game and Pearl River came out ready to play,”said Dales. “They came out fast and got ahead of us,” leading 8-0early in the first half.

“We had to slow them down and make them play our game.”

After sacking 14 treys a week earlier in the 30-point victoryover nationally-ranked East Central Community College, the LadyWolves shot blanks much of the night against Pearl River. They madejust 2 of 16 field goals from 3-point range and 17 of 42 frominside the arc.

Sophomore guard Rusti Smith led the perimeter attack with 11points, making 2 of 7 treys.

Pearl River forced several turnovers due to its quickness buthit 23 of 53 from the 2-point field goal range. The Lady Wildcatswere 0-for-4 from 3-point land.

Coach Ed Walley’s Lady Wildcats (12-10, 5-5) had four players indouble figures, led by cat-quick freshman guard Dee Flennory, a 5-6Hattiesburg (North Forrest) product. Guard Lori DeSilvey andplaymaker Jessica Pucheu, both from Hancock County, netted 12 and11 points respectively. Mindy Ladner, a 5-10 freshman forward fromHancock County, added 10 points.

In the first half, Co-Lin finally caught the Lady Wildcats andtook the lead as Dales cashed in a 3-point play and Brown bagged apair of free throws, making it 29-28. A short jumper by Brown and 2free shots by Livaudais gave Co-Lin a 33-30 halftime lead.

The Lady Wolves were a perfect 15-for-15 from the line in thefirst half. In the last 7 minutes of the game, Co-Lin got 8 of its12 points at the charity line.
