22-0 Lady Wolves whip Jones Co.

/ WESSON -Freshman center Mindy Livaudais has adjusted well tothe rigors of junior college basketball. Livaudais, a strong6-footer from Chalmette, La., scored 20 points Monday night inhelping lead the undefeated Co-Lin Lady Wolves to an 89-74 victoryover Jones County Junior College in South Division action.

/ It was the 22nd straight victory for Co-Lin. The Lady Wolves,ranked No. 6 in the latest NJCAA poll, climbed to 11-0 in the SouthDivision and tightened their grip on No. 1 seeding in next week’sdivision tournament at Southwest. They conclude regular season playThursday night at Southwest in Summit.

/ Livaudais and sophomore teammate Tiffany Dales shared scoringhonors in Co-Lin’s last home game of the season. Sophomore forwardDenise Catchings and freshman post Christy Brown chipped in 18points for the Lady Wolves.

/ “It feels good to be 22-0 but we can’t let that go to ourheads,” said Livaudais. “I like Co-Lin a lot.”

/ Livaudais said she was accustomed to a tough, physical styleof play in high school. “It’s very physical in Louisiana. It’s alot more laid back up here in Mississippi.”

/ Livaudais was among three Co-Lin players who left MullenGymnasium with ice packs taped to their knees last night. Sophomoreguard Sheritha Simmons injured her right knee on a layup with 4:21left in the game and had to be helped off the floor.

/ The Lady Bobcats (18-7, 7-5) produced a strong effort andtrailed Co-Lin 38-36 at halftime. The Lady Wolves started thesecond half with 7 unanswered points. A baseline jumper byCatchings and free throw by Dales made 45-36 and Jones neverrecovered.

/ “Overall, we did pretty good on defense,” said Co-Lin women’scoach Gwyn Young. “We executed on offense and made some threeswhich opened up out inside game.”

/ Catchings, a sophomore from Hazlehurst, sacked 4 of 6 treys.She also made 8 assists.

/ On the backboards, Brow and Dales each had 8 rebounds.

/ Jones got a game-high 24 points from Tammika Sims, a 5-11sophomore forward from Quitman. Freshman point guard BrittanySumrall of Laurel (West Jones) and 6-foot freshman center EbonyJohnson of Miami, Fla., scored 12 apiece.
