At it’s meeting last week, the Lincoln County Board ofSupervisors spent time (again) discussing ways to improve garbagefee collections.

Currently, those who fail to pay their fees can be denied cartags, have a lien put on their property, be turned over to acollection agency or sued in justice court. Evidently that’s notenough threat for some who just don’t care, and they continuallyrefuse to pay their bill.

That’s why the garbage fee, which was raised from $6 a month to$7.50 earlier this year, will very likely be raised again nextyear.

What’s the answer? We don’t know, and the supervisors don’teither.

We do know this: it’s a shame that some refuse to acceptresponsibility for a county service they receive, putting even moreexpense on the responsible citizens who do.
