Panthers storm past South Pike’s Eagles

The Brookhaven Panthers took no prisoners Friday night andoverpowered the South Pike Eagles in a chilly Division 6-4Atwinbill on Moyer Field. Brookhaven won the opener 21-1 and roaredto a 15-5 win in the finale. The Panthers (6-2, 3-0) play Loyd StarMonday morning at 10 in the McComb Tournament on North Pike’sfield. Brookhaven meets North Pike at 4.
On Wednesday, the Panthers are scheduled to play Franklin Countyat 4 p.m., on McComb’s Rotary Field.
“South Pike is really struggling right now,” said Brookhavencoach Randy Spring. “We were able to take advantage of theirmistakes.”
Spring said the Panthers haven’t reached their potential. “Westill haven’t peaked. We are just three runs away from beingundefeated.”

James McCall (3-0) struck out 4 batters, walked none andgave up 2 hits in notching the easy victory. He was relieved byDaniel Boyd in the fifth.
A triple and a single by shortstop Cayce Wallace ledBrookhaven in batting. Wallace and first baseman Ben Goza each had4 RBIs.
Goza, Dusty Gerald and Kern Hoff doubled for Brookhaven.The Panthers led 11-0 after 2 innings.

Winning pitcher Justin Sykes gave up one earned run. Hestruck out 2 batters, walked 3 and allowed 1 hit in 4innings.
AT the plate, three hits by third baseman Miguel Banksand Boyd directed Brookhaven’s offensive. Wallace and McCall had 2hits.
Also hitting safely for the Panthers was AaronOberschmidt, Goza and Anderson.
First baseman Jed Easley had 2 hits for theEagles.
