Co-Lin rallies past Kishwaukee 8-7

WESSON — The Co-Lin Wolves scored the game-winning run in thebottom of the 10th inning to pull out an 8-7 win over theKishwaukee Kougars of Chicago, Ill., Wednesday afternoon. Co-Linswept the three-game series with Kishwaukee at Sullivan Field.

The win improved the Wolves record to 11-6. Kishwaukee falls to3-3 on the season after coming into Spring Break with a 3-0worksheet.

The game was deadlocked at 7-all at the end of the seventh afterthe Wolves scored three runs to force the tie and extrainnings.

With the bases loaded, freshman Brandon Holleman singled toscore Travis Smith from third base for the game-winning run.

“Kishwaukee is a real solid team,” said Co-Lin head baseballcoach Keith Case. “This series should be a real confidence boostedfor our team. The first game Tuesday we beat the guy that beat uslast year. We scored a lot of runs on him. Our guys battled. Weknew they had a good squad. It was three good games. It was goodfor our confidence.”

Posting the win in relief was Doug Atkins (1-1). Starting thegame was Christopher Robinson followed by relievers Jacob Hartwigand Jacob Blakeney in the fifth, Josh Garrett in the seventh andAtkins in the ninth. Robinson allowed 6 hits, 3 runs, struck out 2batters, had no walks, hit 1 batsman and picked off one batter.

The losing hurler was reliever Nick Stevens in the seventh. NoahRusso started with 7 hits and 4 runs allowed, 5 strikeouts and 2walks.

Powering Co-Lin with a home run and a single was Brett Duncan.Arlandus Brown tripled. Brandon Atkins doubled and singled threetimes. Brandon Holleman singled twice. David Gray hit safely.

“We have a chance to be competitive,” added Case. “We playedreal good defense. Offensively, they outhit us in three games. Wewere able to execute offensively our hit-and-run and delayedsteals. For us to be successful, we will have to executeoffensively.”

Kishwaukee got a pair of doubles from Eric Johnson.

Co-Lin travels to Scooba Saturday to meet East Mississippi.
