Brook Academy gets wins over two teams

The host Brookhaven Academy Cougars exploded for five runs inthe bottom of the sixth inning to pull out a 7-6 comeback win overthe Prentiss Christian School Saints Saturday.

Powering Brookhaven to the comeback with a home run wasKelly Allred. Adam Smith doubled twice and singled. Ripping atriple and a single was Jeffrey Waycaster. Layne Moreton doubledand singled. Hitting a double was Chris Magee.

Paul Coker was the winning pitcher in relief of starterChase Rainer. Adam Smith worked the final inning. Rainer struck outthree and walked five batters. Brett Myers absorbed the loss,striking out six and walking two.

Myers singled three times for Prentiss. Drilling adouble and a single was Ryan Fortenberry. Ty Harthorne and A.J.Williamson singled twice. Nick Daley doubled.

In the B-team game, Brookhaven whipped Prentiss 11-2.Cole Hodges got the win. Johnathan Strong led at the plate with twohits.

Brookhaven 9, Oak Forrest 4

“This was a big win for us in our division,” saidBrookhaven Academy coach Ron Rushing. ‘We played defense and got alot of hits.”

In Friday’s game, Moreton sparked Brookhaven with atriple and a single. Ripping two singles apiece were Coker, Smithand Allred. Ben Davis, Waycaster and Brandon Achordsingled.

Recording the mound win was starter Sandifer. Lagronecame in in the third inning striking out four and walking three.Finishing the final two innings was Davis with two strikeouts andtwo walks.

Brookhaven Academy hosts district foe Bowling GreenTuesday for two games. The junior varsity begins at 5 p.m. followedby the varsity at 7.
