MONTICELLO – The Terry Bulldogs clobbered the Lawrence CountyCougars 14-1 in Division 6-4A high school baseball action Tuesdaynight at Jimmie Davis Park. Terry took advantage of numerousLawrence County miscues to score 10 runs in the top of the firstand cruised to the easy victory.

With the win, Terry improved to 15-2 overall, 7-0 in thedivision. The Cougars fell to 9-9 overall, 4-3 in the division.Lawrence County head coach Chris Clark said that his team was neverin the fight.

“They played the first inning without us,” said Clark. “We justdidn’t show up to play. If we make the plays we’re supposed tomake, they score one in the first. As it was, they scored 10, andwe were never in the game.”

“Obviously, we’ve got to improve our level of play to competewith these people,” said Clark. “We’ll try it again Friday night,and I expect our team to play better.”

The 10-run first inning disaster was the story of the night. Theoutcome was basically decided in the first 20 minutes. LawrenceCounty starter Dusty Williamson got hit some, but was victimized bytwo critical errors, plus other misplays.

Drew Haley relieved Williamson in the first. He allowed a doubleand a home run in that frame but held the Bulldogs scoreless in thesecond and third innings. In the midst of a four-run, fourth inningrally, Haley gave way to freshman Luke Watts, who retired all sixTerry batters he faced.

“Dusty deserves better,” said Clark, “and Drew (Haley) and Luke(Watts) came in and battled very well. If there was any bright spottonight, that was it.”

Offensively, Lawrence County didn’t do much against Terryleft-hander Nathan Sanders who allowed three hits and struck outseven in the five inning affair. His shutout bid ended in the fifthwhen Michael Edwards singled home Nathan Evans, who had reached onan infield hit. Dusty Ladd had the only other hit for the Cougars,a double in the fourth inning.

The Cougars and Terry will wrap up their three-game series witha doubleheader Friday night at Terry.
