Services for A. C. Sample of Brookhaven are 11 a.m., Tuesday,April 17, at First United Methodist Church with burial in RiverwoodMemorial Park. The Revs. Loney Hallberg and David Slaughter willofficiate.

Visitation is today from 4-9 p.m. at the church. BrookhavenFuneral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sample, 96, died April 14, 2001, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. He was born in Shelbyville, Texas, on Nov. 5, 1904, toStephen Austin Sample and Fannie Rogers Sample. He moved toBrookhaven in the early thirties.

He was an owner of small businesses and a salesman. He was amember of First United Methodist Church, where he was a member ofthe Sunday school. He began taking painting classes at Co-LinCommunity College when he was 92 years old and held an exhibit ofhis work at the Lincoln County Public Library in August 2000.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Helen Sartin Sample; hisbrothers, Harley Sample, Jack Sample, and T. O. Sample; hissisters, Dura Nelson, Sang Clark, and Shug Meggs; and his grandson,Steven Sample.

Survivors are his children, Tex Sample and wife Peggy ofPhoenix, Ariz., and Pat Smith and husband Shelby “Chuck” Smith ofBrookhaven; his brother, Joel Sample of Pineland, Texas; hisgrandchildren, Shawn Sample of Phoenix, Jennifer Butler of KansasCity, Mo., and Michael Smith and Chad Smith, both of Brookhaven;and his great-grandchildren, Melissa Sample, Jessica Sample, BlakeButler, Hailey Butler, Sam Smith, Sydney Smith, and Noah Smith.

Pallbearers will be Chad Smith, Mike Smith, Shawn Sample, JohnDaquilla, Joe Sample, Blake Butler, Mike Biglane, and John Sumrall.Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Bible Class of First UnitedMethodist Church.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.
